Week 3: Post-Snowmageddon Recovery

Sunday, January 31st. T-minus seven days until Miss Daisy XV, and her twin, are complete! At the halfway point, the momentum we picked up early in build season hasn’t slowed at all, and the team has recovered nicely from last weekend’s Snowmageddon. Each of our subteams worked tirelessly this week to meet their goals, and lots of progress has been made towards our long-term objectives.

First, Monday was sheet metal Christmas! Our chassis plates24626639602_7bb8ffbf79_o arrived and most of the build team made the transition from prototyping to final robot fabrication. A small group of students remained behind to continue finessing the intake and shooter, which will be fabricated this coming week and installed on Friday or Saturday. Right now, our electrical team is wiring up our practice bot, while we hold off on final assembly of the competition robot to add some color to it. Our CAD team has been working around the clock to manage tolerances, stress concentrations, and all of the other details that come with fabricating robot parts.

The software team made steady progress on our vision code, and we can now accurately detect all three high goals and adjust the drivebase to align for a shot. We look forward to deploying our “aimbot,” as it’s affectionately been dubbed, at Hatboro-Horsham in just a few short weeks. Next week, with our twins driving around, we’ll be able to start focusing more on executing our autonomouses (autonomi?)  Shoutout to Josh for being a programming machine this week!

The goal of this project is to do something that our vlogs had a hard time accomplishing;take a deeper dive into the thought process of our team and explore the human side of build season. The shop has been a flurry of interviews and carefully crafted filming these past few weeks, and the documentary is coming together smoothly. Look for the full-length movie to drop soon after bag-day. Meanwhile, other media members have started to narrow in on our team standard design, and manufacturing of that should take place this week or next.

Build season is only officially halfway over, but we’re in the homestretch now and our own deadlines are just days away.

Let’s keep up the great work.
