Ramp Riot Introductory Video: An Inside Look

This year’s Ramp Riot introductory video was a special project for this year’s media team. The media team has grown substantially from last year and the enthusiasm was off the charts! As a group, the students decided that they wanted to do a train theme to play off of the game name of “Logomotion.” Coach Scott Richardson worked with the students in Adobe After Effects to portray various scenes related to train imagery. Here are the sketches that we worked off of:

One of our students found the perfect track for the video, courtesy of the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack. Scott worked to loop it in a way that was more conducive to the video and together we all edited the pieces together in Adobe Premiere.

One important aspect to note is the train in the very beginning. Special thanks to our students Andy and Dave for working really really hard on animating a full out 3d train!

Here’s how it turned out!

Duel on the Delaware

2011 Duel on the DelawareOn Saturday, we woke up really early to compete at Salem Community College in New Jersey. We were going to face off against 30 other teams at Duel on the Delaware!

Our team came out with 9 wins and 3 losses, making it to the finals. We gave all of our students a chance at the robot driving experience, which was quite interesting to watch. Our team was the #2 seed and selected Team 816 and Team 339 as our partners for the playoffs.

In the finals, we competed against teams 365, 1647, and 87. We ended up winning the first match and losing the two next matches, leaving us as the Duel on the Delaware Finalists! We had an awesome time cheering on the teams, dancing in the stands, and enjoying the adrenaline rush of friendly competition. We had a truly splendid time, as always, at Duel on the Delaware.

Team 341 Pepsi Refresh Grant!

Our team has been entered for the Pepsi Refresh Grant Project voting for the month of September. We are trying to win a $25,000 grant to build a Mobile Robotics Learning Center that will visit all of our schools. This project will benefit our team, as well as every child and every school in our district.

We must finish within the top 15 in order to receive the grant for our project. The voting only lasts for the month of September.

Our plan is to build a Mobile Robotics Learning Center (MRLC), that will travel throughout our community inspiring our young people to pursue their Math, Science, and Technology education. Once the MRLC is built, this traveling show will make regular visits to Mattison Avenue, Lower Gwynedd, Stony Creek, Blue Bell, Shady Grove, WMS, and WHS. This mobile activity will give kids a chance to interact with a variety of machines and computer displays, learn about technology concepts and have fun doing it. We have been visiting schools for years, but now we want to turn our appearances into a mobile museum for our children.

With a grant valued at $25,000 we are asking that every team member and parent get involved in the voting. Student team members may start voting right away with the permission of their parent. Parents can of course vote right away. :)

  1. Go to http://www.refresheverything.com/roboticslearningcenter and vote every day in September.
  2. Texting adds another vote for 341! This will essentially double our voting power. Text 108631 to 73774.
  3. If you buy a Pepsi product with a “Power Vote” label, please email the code to me so that we can enter the code on our site. Pepsi packages contain codes which can increase our vote count by as much as 100 votes per package.
  4. Please spread the word amongst your friends and reach out beyond our community to all of your social groups.

Thank you for your continued support!

Indiana Robotics Invitational

2011 IRIOver the summer, we traveled to Indianapolis for the Indiana Robotics Invitational, IRI for short. To make the adventure more fun – and cost effective – we went out west on a 14 hour bus ride with two other FRC teams, the Mighty Monkey Wrenches and Panther Robotics. That experience was incredible!

During the competition, our crew did an exceptional job, though we did encounter a host of technical problems. We ended up with three wins, six losses, and an incredibly good time. One of the best parts of IRI was their talent show. A group from our team, including Little Bear, Tito, Dash, Evan, and Sean, performed a jump-style dance.

We hope that we can go to IRI next year and for the years to come because we have such a great time and it is an excellent way to spend some of the summer holidays.

2011 Monty Madness Champions!

This past Saturday the team traveled to Montgomery HS in North Jersey to play against 42 East Coast Teams in the “Monty Madness” robotics competition.

The team got stronger as the day went on and played well in all three phases of the game. We also scored a mini-bot in almost every match. We were eventually selected 3rd in the playoff draft and swept the playoffs in 6 straight games.

In the finals Miss Daisy, along with her partners, Team 2016 and Team 3142, posted scores of 127 – 24 and 118 – 40, defeating a tough alliance led by Team 103, Palisades HS.

Even if you did not go on this trip, it is your hard work that made this victory happen. Congratulations to the entire team.

Mr. O.
