Robotics Hits the Big Screen

In the summer of 2007, Miss Daisy got in touch with her inner celebrity during the filming of the independent movie Catch Your Mind.  Our team has been involved with the production of the full-length feature film, written and produced by the father of one of our students.  He was so inspired by our robotics program and his son’s involvement on the team that he decided to write an entire movie script revolving around a similar story line.

The production company, SD Digital Creations, naturally called on Miss Daisy to help produce the movie.  With the generous help of NASA, community members, volunteers, and other FRC teams, we turned our school’s gym into a movie set – complete with a fully operational competition field.  Students, alumni, and mentors helped both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as extras, supporting actors, and technical advisors, and were even credited in the film.

The movie was released this Friday, October 3rd, to hundreds of theaters worldwide.  Cast, crew, and the local teams involved gathered at the premiere to display the robots used in the film.  Catch Your Mind will be released on DVD this February, with a special feature explaining how to get involved in the FIRST® program.
