2014 Build Season: Week 4

Design and Mechanical
This week our team was hard at work as usual. The team began to work on the different methods of shooting. The mechanical team has the idea of the shooter; it is just a matter of how it will be mounted on the base of the robot. The team is also working on some problems that have arisen when the chosen shooter was placed on the catcher. Our Mechanical and CAD teams are working in conjunction in an effort to finish the robot design before beginning the final build.

Media
As usual, the Media team is documenting the team’s accomplishments digitally with both image and video. Photographs are uploaded to the team Flickr, while our biweekly vlogs, which consist of video interviews of various sub-team members and build footage, are uploaded to YouTube.  The media team takes all of their recordings and selects segments to be edited into five to six minute videos.

CAD
The CAD team began to pick up steam this week: the finalization of many prototypes has demanded more digital drafting. The CAD team and the mechanical team are working together in order to CAD the prototypes. We are doing this in order to have all of the prototypes on the computer and put them together in order to see what the robot would look like.  After we finalize the CAD design we can send off the mechanical team with the right dimensions of the robot so that they can correctly build it.

Programming
This team has primarily been working on the autonomous program for the robot. It will allow the robot to be able to see the goal from anywhere on the field and will be able to calculate what the robot will have to do in order to get the ball into the goal. Consequently, the program is mostly math-based and, to make sure the program will work with the robot, involves a lot of projection, especially about what the robot might look like.

Scouting
The team has made a lot of progress since their last check-in. Now they have a program in which a person can pull up information about any robot or team quickly and easily. They have almost also finished up the new scouting sheet for our team to use once competition season has started.

We are all having a good time right now. There is a certain lull in things to do, but we all know that this is the home stretch, the real fighting will begin on week 5 and 6. We hope everyone is having a good time like us and wish to all see you at the competition.
