2015 Build Season Week 2

Though there may be six weeks in build season, each one is integral to the team’s success during competition season. Week Two in particular lays the groundwork for all of the building and design projects to come. The week consisted of many interesting projects for all team members to work on, as well as a local demonstration.

Read below for our weekly recap. Enjoy!

Wissahickon Valley Public Library Demo

On Tuesday January 13th, our team spent the afternoon at the Wissahickon Valley Public Library giving a presentation to young children about FIRST and our program. Presentations such as these are very important to our team, as they allow us to spread our message to the community and inspire elementary-aged students to pursue their interests in STEM fields. The children at the library were very excited to see one of our robots in action, and loved being able to drive it. We hope to see these children on Team 341 in the coming years!

2015 Build Season

Robot Design & Construction

A major success within this week’s prototyping process was the creation of an elevator mechanism. By the end of the week, the students working on the elevator prototype were able to create a working piece that could life totes up and down. Another build group was also able to create an intake prototype to successfully lift totes from the ground. Great things are certainly in the works!

While the mechanical build team worked hard at developing prototypes, the CAD team created a new model for a new battery cart, as well as a preliminary model for this year’s robot. The robot model was created from the individual CAD designs of the prototypes, which were combined together to create the most realistic robot for our team.

Media

This week, the media team continued to work on the Weeks 1 & 2 video vlogs, as well as the Ramp Riot recap video. Some media team members were also hard at work designing a new potential pit display for our team. Everything is looking good!

Watch the Weeks 1 & 2 Vlog below!

Website

Our ever-growing website team worked diligently on our new website this week. They researched potential themes for the new site, and found possible plug-ins for various media sources, such as Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The website team also scrolled through our thousands of Flickr photos to link the photographs to the necessary event pages on the website. We are making great progress!

Programming

To get ready for the coding process for this year’s game challenge, the programming team set up our gitHub repository and began to copy code from previous years to prepare for this year’s code. We are looking forward to see what our programmers have up their sleeves this year!

2015 Build Season

That’s all for now, folks. As you can see, Miss Daisy is preparing for her best season yet!
